 DISTANCE LEARNING

Units I currently offer via distance Learning are :

Foundation in Dance Instruction
·        FDI unit 2 – Health and Safety
·        FDI unit 3 – Lifespan Development and learning in Dance
·        FDI unit 6 – Background to a chosen dance genre.

Certificate in Dance Education
·        CDE unit 8 – Background to a Chosen dance genre.

Candidates who wish to pursue these units through distance learning tutoring need to ensure that they are registered at an approved dance centre.  A list of approved dance centres can be found on the ISTD website.  This then enables you to sit the exams for module 2, units 2 and 3 (Health and Safety and Lifespan Development at your approved centre.)

For unit 2 (Health and Safety in Dance) and unit 3 (Lifespan Development and Learning in Dance) candidates need to purchase the course books from the ISTD sales department at a price of £10.00 each.

On receiving the course book you will see that the Health and Safety in Dance course (FDI) has been split into 10 topics and the Lifespan Development and Learning in Dance (FDI) into 12 topics.  Each topic is listed below.

Each topic includes a number of learning activities and finally a task.  Candidates must complete the task and submit it for marking to their tutor/distance learning tutor.  If the task has been satisfactorily completed it will be signed off by the tutor. If the tutor feels that the task does not meet the standard required the candidate will be advised accordingly and will need to make adjustments or redo the task and then resubmit it for marking.  The tutor will record successfully completed tasks on the Task Completion Form (TCF).  All 10 tasks for Health and Safety in Dance must have been completed successfully and been signed off before the candidate can sit the examination in that unit, likewise all 12 tasks must have been signed off before the candidate can sit the Lifespan Development and Learning in Dance unit.

APL CANDIDATES

If you are an APL candidate (you have filled in the Accredited Prior Learning form and received your results back from the ISTD), it  may be that you do not have to complete the tasks for the contextual studies units (Health and Safety and Lifespan).  It is however strongly recommended that you do, as it will aid learning and will enable your tutor in giving you more constructive help and feedback.  However, you do not have to have the tasks signed off by the tutor on the Task Completion Form.
